Is 2016 finally the “next year” the Cubs have been waiting for?
One final question, and this is the question Cubs fans, and the world, have been asking for more than a hundred years. Is this the year? How do you face up to the challenge of bringing a championship to a team and a fandom that has waited for more than a century? Cubs fans are grumpy, judgmental, quick to anger – but patient. Despite a lifetime and then some, the words “There’s always next year” still have meaning.
Boston won their championship and left their “curse” behind them. Can this young team, fortified with new and amazing veteran talent, bring that same gift to the Windy City? Will the names Rizzo, Bryant, Russell, Arrieta, Montero, Ross, Heyward, Zobrist, Schwarber, Soler, Lester, and the rest go down in history as the men in blue who brought home the dream?
In 2015 an amazing season, capped by beating the two teams with the best records in baseball, ended in the NLCS vs. the New York Mets, who have plagued the team’s World Series dreams through the years. A Mets team that, despite the sudden streak hitting of Daniel Murphy and the addition of Yoenis Cespedes, didn’t win a single game against the Cubs in the regular season. Can Joe Maddon and the boys cross that final boundary into legend?
Okay… sixth question. How long until Opening Day?
