2.) Carl Edwards – Right Hand Pitcher
Date of Birth: 9/3/1991
Acquired: Trade with Texas Rangers in 2013
Edwards made his Major League debut last September, but is still rookie eligible for the Cubs. He is the only player on this list that has made their debut to this point. His fastball can reach the mid-to-upper 90s with movement. Because of his movement, Edwards has only allowed just two home runs in over 230 professional innings. His secondary pitches will continue to develop during spring camp, and likely starting 2016 in the minors.
Edwards is a good athlete, but the constant concern is his body frame. A heavy workload on his body may lead to possible injury concerns. Because of that, any immediate impact at the big league level will likely come as a reliever. Edwards has a high ceiling within the Cubs organization because of his stuff. If he is able to improve consistently with his command and add strength, Edwards will be able to reach that potential with a promising career.
