Report: Mets remain in contact with Yoenis Cespedes

The New York Mets have “stayed in contact” with free agent outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.

A report from Heyman in late December suggested that the Mets were no longer in the running for Cespedes. However, it appears that they are staying in touch with Cespedes’ agent just in case he falls into the Mets’ price range.

That being said, it is highly unlikely Cespedes’ price falls that far, meaning that we shouldn’t expect to see Cespedes back in a Mets uniform next season.

Seven teams are in on Cespedes, including the Chicago White Sox and Baltimore Orioles, according to previous reports from Heyman and Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com.

Sanchez listed the White Sox and Orioles as the leaders for Cespedes back on December 29, but it turned out that no deal was close with either team and that still appears to be the case.

With each day that passes, it is becoming more and more likely that Cespedes won’t receive the contract he seeks. A two or three-year deal is possible.
