#3- Pablo Sandoval

The “Kung Fu Panda” had a horrible first season with his new team. The Boston Red Sox faithful were excited at first by the acquisition, but Sandoval showed up to spring training overweight and out of shape, and it only got worse from there. By the end of the year, most fans were done with both him and Hanley Ramirez.

Ramirez just missed making this list. It seems that out of the two, Sandoval has the best chance to bounce back and have a decent season. It has been reported that he is already in way better shape than last year, and hopefully that condition will result in a better season on the field. Red Sox fans can only hope as Sandoval is needed if the team expects a winning season.

Pablo Sandoval doesn’t have the greatest statistics in the world, but he does have a track record of success when it counts. Winning three world titles and being a pivotal part of three championships for the Giants is why Sandoval was paid so much. He hit .245 on the season for the Sox with 10 home runs and 47 RBIs while recording a -0.9 WAR on the year. His defense was atrocious, as he committed 15 errors at third base.

A focused and motivated Sandoval should be able to get his batting average around the .300 mark. He has never had much power, but he could be a 15-20 home run guy for the Red Sox going forward. The $77.4 million owed Sandoval through the 2019 season means that he is going to play if healthy. The Red Sox need bounce back years from Sandoval and Hanley if the want to take a step into the next level. With David Ortiz set to retire at the end of the year, expect the Sox to be very active in attempting to field a Championship team.
