The 23-year-old right-hander made his major-league debut in 2015, posting a 9-7 record on a Mets team that struggled for the first half of the season and severely lacked any sort of run support for its young pitching staff. Syndergaard, who was dubbed “Thor” by the Mets nation due to his long blonde locks, struck out 166 batters in just 150 innings pitched. After posting a 10.0 K/9 in the regular season, he topped that with his 12.3 K/9 in the postseason while going 2-1 before the Mets were defeated by the Kansas City Royals in the World Series.
