Bullpen:

Notable Additions: Seung-hwan Oh, Jordan Walden

Notable Departures: Carlos Villanueva, Matt Belisle, Steve Cishek, Randy Choate

The Cardinals didn’t do much with the bullpen that ranked 3rd in ERA in 2015. Carlos Villanueva was effective in a long relief role, but Tyler Lyons will be able to step into that role in 2016. Randy Choate is also departed, freeing up a bullpen spot the Cardinals can actually utilize. The Cardinals did have a need for a right-handed reliever to pair with lefty Kevin Siegrist and signed Korean closer Seung Hwan Oh to fill that role. Oh, 33, pitched to a 1.81 ERA and 5.18 K/BB ratio across parts of 11 seasons in the Korean Baseball Organization and the Japanese Central League. He was nicknamed “Final Boss” overseas, and the Cardinals hope that he, Siegrist, and Trevor Rosenthal can form a force to be reckoned with at the back end of the bullpen. The expected return of Jordan Walden will also help bolster an already solid pen.

Grade: A

Thanks for writing about the team during these bleak baseball-less days is appreciated. Giving Oh an A before he even throws a pitch in Jupiter….. I need to see something first. Mozeliak gets an A for not resigning Heywad and letting Piscotty show what he’s made of.
