Dee Gordon, Miami Marlins
Five years, $50 million
Vesting Option for 2021

The Marlins didn’t make many moves this offseason, but one of the ones they did make made a lot of sense. In signing second baseman Dee Gordon to a five year extension for $50 million, the Marlins front office may have gotten an absolute steal. After a breakout season in 2015, one in which he hit .333 with a fWAR of 4.6, Gordon certainly deserved the extension. However, from the Marlins perspective, if Gordon can keep up this above average performance through the life of this new contract, the Marlins will be getting millions of dollars in surplus value. If Gordon continues this performance, and if he was to hit the open market, he would most likely get a contract even bigger than the one he just signed.
