The floundering Phillies dealt the 32 year-old left-hander to the Texas Rangers along with Jake Diekman, in return for Jorge Alfaro, Jake Thompson, Nick Williams, Alec Asher, Jerad Eickhoff, and Matt Harrison. The deal was a win for both clubs, but had the most immediate impact for the Rangers as Hamels helped them make the playoffs, where they were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALDS in a riveting series filled with drama and controversy. Hamels went 7-1 with a 3.66 ERA in 12 starts for the Rangers down the stretch.
