Nationals acquire Jonathan Papelbon from the Philadelphia Phillies
In what turned out to be probably one of the worst trades of the 2015 season, the Washington Nationals sought the services of closer Jonathan Papelbon to shore up the back end of their bullpen down the stretch. The Nationals ignored all of the reports out of Philadelphia that indicated Papelbon to be a poor clubhouse presence, and sent minor league pitcher Nick Pivetta to Philadelphia in exchange for the veteran reliever. Papelbon appeared in 22 games for the Nationals, saving seven, and posting a 2-2 record with an ERA of 3.04. Papelbon ended the 2015 season by being suspended by the Nationals after he choked teammate Bryce Harper during an altercation in the Nationals dugout.
