The Toronto Blue Jays and reigning American League Most Valuable Player Josh Donaldson have avoided arbitration and agreed to a two-year contract extension worth nearly $29 million.
Donaldson still has one more arbitration-eligible year in 2018.
When the two sides exchanged arbitration numbers, the Blue Jays were sitting at $11.35 million and Donaldson’s camp at $11.8 million for the 2016 season.
In 158 games this season, Donaldson hit .297 to go along with 41 home runs and 123 RBIs.
