In a market where success at the major league level is constantly demanded, building a strong farm system can be a tough challenge (see: Los Angeles Angels, Detroit Tigers). However, in the past half decade, the Boston Red Sox and the now-departed Ben Cherington have done well to build the farm system into one of the best in baseball. With a history of producing homegrown star players, including Jon Lester, Dustin Pedroia, and Kevin Youkilis, as well as former farmhands currently on the verge of major-league stardom, such as Xander Bogaerts and Mookie Betts.
The Red Sox’ future looks bright as the minor-league system is currently stacked with talented players. Even though new President of Baseball Operations, Dave Dombrowski, traded away four players who likely could have cracked this list in his deal for Craig Kimbrel, the Red Sox’ top 20 is an impressive list.
