Willson Contreras Will Debut in the Majors
At least one rookie will make the leap to the majors before season’s end, and I believe if it’s only one, that it will be Willson Contreras. Kyle Schwarber will remain in lef field. He’s been working on agility and speed, he has heart and talent, and he’ll be at least average this season in left field, with the possibility of surprising people. David Ross is in his swan song season and Miguel Montero is close enough to the end of his starting career for the team to be seriously working in the catcher of the future. It’s Contreras. It is also possible that a couple of young arms, like Carl Edwards, or even Dylan Crease, could have a chance to play, but only if something disastrous happens, or if they come up in September for seasoning. The team’s depth and versatility are so well balanced that there just isn’t a slot for a rookie position player, no matter how talented, to work into an impact role, barring multiple injuries.
