4. Major impact on the June Draft

During their rebuilding process, the Cubs have grown accustomed to picking early in the draft. This year, that will all change.  After signing John Lackey and Jason Heyward, the Cubs lost early compensation picks in the draft order. They had a chance to get one of those back in the event that Fowler signed on with another team. With Fowler now back in Chicago, it means that the Cubs first pick in June will not be until the end of the 3rd round, over 100 picks into the draft. Stocked with young, core players and a good farm system, the Cubs will now have to look even deeper for their next Kris Bryant or Kyle Schwarber.
