Top 100 MLB Players: 1-10

1. Mike Trout CF

Still the best player in baseball, but he does have competition now with Harper having a historic season in 2015. It’s remarkable that Trout’s floor is eight wins and ceiling is close to eleven.

2. Bryce Harper RF

Coming off his break out season where he posted a 197 wRC+, it’s hard to believe he’s only 23 years old. He might overtake Trout if he tops him in fWAR again in 2016.

3. Clayton Kershaw SP

He was bit by the sequencing curse in 2015 and finished third in the Cy Young award voting despite 300 strikeouts and posting the best FIP in baseball. It is clear that he is the best pitcher in baseball.

4. Buster Posey C

This might be a surprise, but his positional value is off the charts. Nobody is close to him at the catcher position and that’s why he is in the top five. On pace to be the greatest hitting catcher in the history of baseball.

5. Andrew McCutchen CF

No surprise here. He just posted his fifth five-plus fWAR season in a row and is still in his prime at 29 years old. It still feels that he is underrated in the baseball world.

6. Josh Donaldson 3B

I bet the Athletics are kicking themselves for trading this star. He just posted his third six-plus fWAR season in a row and won his first Most Valuable Player award in 2015 over Trout.

7. Paul Goldschmidt 1B

On one of the more friendly contracts in baseball, Goldy posted his best season in the big leagues in 2015. He had a 164 wRC+ and 7.4 fWAR as a first baseman. Oh and he also stole 21 bases.

8. Joey Votto 1B

Carrying the highest walk rate in baseball he also hit for a ton of power in 2015. He posted a positional best 172 wRC+ and an astonishing .459 on base percentage.

9. Zack Greinke SP

Newly acquired Diamondback posted a 1.66 ERA in 2015 and I was tempted to put him in the top five but his peripherals prevented me from doing so. Still a cerebral and dominating pitcher and worthy of being in the top ten players list.

10. Jake Arrieta SP

After coming off a Cy Young award in 2015 it will be difficult for him to replicate his 2015 season. Projections still love him for 2016 due to his strikeout and walk rates.
