Wainwright caught a tough break in 2015. A torn achilles suffered while batting limited him to just 28 innings pitched after a fast start to the season. All is not lost. The time to rehab gave Wainwright a chance to rest his aging body, and especially his arm. This could lead to him going full throttle in 2016, enabling him to reach 220-240 innings pitched despite his age. This upside combined with his slight drop on draft boards should be more than enough reason to target him, as he will more than likely return to the high level we’re all used to.
Verdict: Buy: last season gave him time to recover and he’ll retake his place as a top 20 pitcher in 2016.
