Players Who Could Be Traded Before Opening Day

Alejandro De Aza– Outfielder, New York Mets

When the Mets agreed to a one-year contract with De Aza worth $5.75 million early in the offseason, the club had plans to use the 32-year-old as a fourth outfielder.

Those plans quickly changed, as Yoenis Cespedes agreed to return to the Big Apple. With Juan Lagares, Curtis Granderson and Michael Conforto joining Cespedes in the Mets outfield, De Aza seems to be the odd man out.

According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, at least six teams have expressed interest in De Aza, who has the ability to play all three outfield positions. The Mets are trying to trade De Aza, but they are looking for a trade partner also willing to take on De Aza’s salary for the 2016 season. It might be difficult to unload his contract before the season starts, but De Aza could be valuable for a team looking for some additional outfield depth. Teams such as the Cleveland Indians, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels, and St. Louis Cardinals could all be interested in De Aza’s services.
