Chicago White Sox
There has been a lot of attention focused on the White Sox over the last week-and-a-half. None of it was positive. Since Adam LaRoche stunned everyone by retiring in the middle of spring training, reports have leaked out surrounding the unusual circumstances behind his retirement. The most significant thing to draw from it all is the apparent friction between the White Sox’ front office and left-handed ace Chris Sale. He has been very vocal in his disappointment in how the front office handled the LaRoche situation. The friction between the two may be something to keep an eye on as the season progresses.
Stud of the Week: Jimmy Rollins
The veteran had a sensational week. Rollins went 7 for 14 at the plate and belted two home runs in the process. Despite getting up there in years the veteran shortstop has shown that he still has plenty left in the tank and is clearly the odds-on favorite to be manning shortstop come Opening Day for the White Sox.
Dud of the Week: Mat Latos
The veteran right-hander made two starts this week. Both starts were against the San Francisco Giants. Both starts ended up going poorly. He surrendered 18 hits and 13 runs in only 8.2 innings of work. He was expected to compete for a spot in the starting rotation this spring but has shown poor results thus far. Granted this is his first week of game action but to put up virtually the same results against the same team in the span of a week is not encouraging at all.
