Not much has gone on with the Tigers since the last time we did this. The only relevant thing of note is that outfielder Cameron Maybin will not be ready for Opening Day. He was expected to form a platoon in center field with Anthony Gose but now that Maybin’s still sidelined, Gose will be manning center field full-time.
Stud of the Week: Justin Upton
The slugging outfielder has had a quiet Spring Training so far until yesterday. It seemed he had been in a bit of a deep slumber thus far and was set to wake up and come to life. That’s exactly what happened as he collected four hits yesterday and cracked two home runs. The Tigers signed him to provide even more thump to an already potent lineup. Up until yesterday he hadn’t shown the power that made him the No. 1 pick in the 2005 draft. It had to be nice for the Tigers to see Upton show off some lumber in his bat.
Dud of the Week: Bobby Parnell
He appeared in four games this week and had mixed results. He threw 3.0 innings in relief but ended up surrendering 7 earned runs. He was knocked around in two of his appearances this week and both rough outings came against the Toronto Blue Jays. He was expected to compete for a bullpen job with the Tigers but may have to accept a minor league assignment as he has been anything but consistent this spring.
