The Twins seem to be gearing up for Opening Day and are slowly but surely rounding out their roster. The biggest question mark remaining is who will be the team’s fifth starter? Will it be veteran righty Ricky Nolasco or young righty Tyler Duffey? Duffey stepped in last year when Noslasco went down with an ankle injury and posted impressive numbers down the stretch. Nolasco is recovered and determined to get his job back. Both guys have one more start this week and that will most likely be the determining factor in deciding who gets the fifth spot in the rotation and who gets stashed in the bullpen.
Stud of the Week: Trevor Plouffe
He had an extremely productive week. He went 7 for 15 at the plate and launched three home runs. He was a potential trade candidate this offseason for the Twins but they decided to hold onto him. Hopefully Plouffe can continue to flash this kind of offensive prowess once the regular season begins.
Dud of the Week: Miguel Sano
It breaks my heart to have to label Sano as the Dud of the Week. He’s got a lot to prove this year. He has to prove that his last season was no fluke plus he also has to show he can handle playing a new position as he has been moved off third base and shifted into a corner outfield slot. He only went 1 for 9 at the plate this week. Hopefully when the regular season comes around he turns it on and shows off the premier power that made him one of the top prospects in the Twins’ organization.
