Fun With Small Sample Sizes: The Miami Marlins Best and Worst of 2016

Fangraphs and Baseball Reference disagree on the best defensive player for the Marlins so far. Catcher J.T. Realmuto leads the Marlins in defensive value (1.0 Def) according to Fangraphs, while shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria leads the team according to Baseball Reference (0.3 dWAR). Both players have been excellent defensively, but let’s give the nod to Hechavarria because he’s higher in Fangraphs’ rank than Realmuto is in Baseball Reference’s. The slick fielding shortstop finally came on last season after years of poor defense despite flashy plays. He was excellent last season and continues to be excellent this year.
