Both sites agree that Hech has been the worst offensive player on the team through the first 17 games. Baseball Reference has him tied with a few other at -0.1 oWAR, but Fangraphs has him at -3.9 Off, alone at the bottom of the list. He’s put up a .200/.250/.320 line with 9 strikeouts and 4 walks. His considerable value last season came from his defense, and it will have to again this year, although the .214 BABIP will certainly improve as the season goes along. Hech hides in the eighth spot in the batting order and can win games with his arm and glove. Anything he does at the plate is just a bonus.
