Kansas City Royals

Record: 4-2

Weekly Recap:

Another solid week in the books for the 2015 World Series champions. They won the series against the Tigers, then took care of the Orioles in similar fashion. They didn’t sweep any series this week, but they played well and are sitting pretty at the top of the division. It would take a lot from any other team in the division to knock these guys off, so all the other AL Central challengers better bring their best effort when going head-to-head with the Royals.

Stud of the Week: Salvador Perez

Why hello, Mr. Perez. It’s nice to meet you, too. The gold-glove catcher sizzled at the plate this week, hitting .333/.368/.944 with three home runs, eight RBIs and two doubles. He was locked in and hitting everything in sight. The Royals are such a well-balanced team that when the bottom of their lineup start to catch fire, they become that much more difficult to contain offensively.

Dud of the Week: Kris Medlen

No one’s expecting Medlen to dominate. He just needs to manage the game and keep the team in it. He didn’t do that this week, as the Orioles laid into him for seven runs on nine hits and three walks. It was a bad outing, but at the same time, he’s still recently removed from his second Tommy John surgery. He can’t have outings like the one he had against the Orioles. Not for the Royals, who are keen on defending their championship.
