The Twins played the National League this week. They had a four-game set against the Brewers at home, then traveled east to take on the Washington Nationals. The results weren’t encouraging. They only split the four-game set against the Brewers, and one of the Twins’ victories came in a rain-shortened game. They then got swept by the Nationals, including a 16-inning loss in the series finale Sunday.
Stud of the Week: Miguel Sano
He got off to a slow start but has started to wake up. Sano hit .350/.433/.560 on the week with two home runs and four RBIs. He did also strike out 11 times, but his strikeout numbers will always be high due to his powerful swing. As he showed during the week, leaving balls out over the plate is a recipe for disaster for a bopper like the young Sano.
Dud of the Week: Kyle Gibson
He was one of the pleasant surprises the Twins experienced in 2015. He was anything but pleasant last week, as he was torched by the Nats for seven runs on seven hits. One run for every hit. Whatever he had wasn’t nearly enough to combat the Nats, and it showed. He’ll have another chance to rebound and forget what was hopefully just a bad day.
