5. If you don’t recognize the man pictured above, you’re not alone. That’s Willians Astudillo, a 24-year-old Venezuelan prospect currently with the Atlanta Braves Double-A affiliate, the Mississippi Braves. Astudillo is not a high-level prospect, as he didn’t even crack Baseball America’s organizational top 30 this season. However, Astudillo boasts some pretty impressive career numbers through what’s now his 7th professional season. In just under 1,750 plate appearances. Astudillo owns a .316/.358/.400 slash line and a wRC+ of 125. So far this season, his slash line is just .281/.311/.333 in his first stint at any level above High-A. However, Astudillo’s calling card as a professional has been his pure refusal to strike out. From 2009 to 2015, Astudillo struck out just 51 times in over 1,600 plate appearances, good for a ridiculous 3.0 percent strikeout rate. This season, in 61 plate appearances at Double-A, Astudillo has — get this — still not struck out even once! While Astudillo may never even reach the majors, his otherworldly ability to put the ball in play is undeniably entertaining to watch.
