Five Stat Friday: Week Five

5. I have zero idea what has gotten into Odubel Herrera, but his plate discipline has gone from one of the worst in baseball to one of the best in baseball. Last season Herrera walked twenty-eight times in 537 plate appearances. That is good for a 5.2 percent walk rate, which ranked 112th out of 141 qualified hitters in 2015. This season, Herrera has already walked twenty-four times (two intentional walks), in just 119 plate appearances. That is a 20.2 percent walk rate, which currently ranks 2nd among the 196 qualified hitters in 2016. It is an incredible turnaround for a guy who was a Rule 5 draft pick by the Phillies. He should surpass his 2015 walk total within the next couple of weeks.
