Last year, Matt Duffy emerged as a terrific young player for the San Francisco Giants, as he finished second in National League Rookie of the Year voting to fellow third baseman Kris Bryant.

He displayed solid power, while also hitting for good average and getting on base well. He was also a great catalyst with men on base, hitting well with runners in scoring position. Through 29 games of his second full season, it has been a different story for Duffy. Not only is he not hitting for a high average, he is failing to get on base, too. As mentioned earlier, the NL West is wide open and appears to be anyone’s game at this point. If Duffy cannot get going, the Giants may have a tough time keeping up.
