St. Louis Cardinals – Adam Wainwright, SP, 2-3, 6.68 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, 12 walks, 18 strikeouts
The St. Louis Cardinals have been surprisingly mediocre to start the season, and there are a lot of reasons as to why. The offense has been inconsistent, and the rotation has been streaky as well.
Quite distressing has been the struggles of Cards’ ace Adam Wainwright. Waino missed most of last year with injury but came back strong for the Cardinals brief playoff run. Something about the veteran’s mechanics are off this year and his control and effectiveness have not been prevalent. His ERA is way higher than any of his past seasons, and opponents are hitting a stunning .311 against him. Unlike some other teams’ situations, it is pretty likely this is only a slump for the Redbirds and for Wainwright and that by the end of the season both will have returned to their normal winning ways.
