Two years ago, it appeared that Devin Mesoraco was going to be the next big thing behind the plate for the Cincinnati Reds. At 26 years of age, the former first rounder hit 25 home runs, while driving in 80 runs and slashing .273/.359/.534.

Since then it has been totally downhill for Mesoraco. He missed most of last year after undergoing hip surgery, and was not hitting at all this year before tearing his labrum. With Mesoraco’s offensive struggles and durability issues, it may not be long before Tucker Barnhart permanently supplants him as the Reds everyday catcher.
