Miami Marlins – Jose Fernandez, SP, 3-2, 4.28 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 16 walks, 47 strikeouts
Jose Fernandez by no means has been bad so far this year, but he also has not been as good as expected. The bright side for Miami is that Fernandez has been healthy to this point, but he has yet to show the dominant delivery and arsenal of pitches that he has displayed in the past.
While he is still striking out hitters at a tremendous pace, batters have also been able to knock him around a lot more than past seasons. It’s often forgotten that the Cuban righty is only 23 years old, and hasn’t even reached near his full potential considering all the missed time due to injuries. The season is still young, and there should not be any doubt that Fernandez will get things going on the bump.
