1. Ketel Marte had the game of his (short-lived) career last night…and barely anybody noticed.
In his last 12 games, Marte is slashing .340/.353/.520 with six extra-base hits (one home run, one triple, and four doubles) and seven RBIs. Pretty sweet for a usually high-average, light-slugging shortstop. He’s been hot at a time when Nelson Cruz is hitting like a league-average corner outfielder, so that’s helpful for the offense.
Last night, Marte swung the bat more like the Boomstick we’re used to. Marte collected an infield single, doubled twice, and lifted his first homer of the season into right-center field, driving in three. It would be the difference maker in a historic game for teammate King Felix.
