What a disaster. It’s still May, but the Twins are so far out of it in the AL Central race it really does seem like their season is practically over. They are 15 games below .500 and things are not getting any better. They won the first game of a three-game series against the Houston Astros but dropped the next two and then got swept by the White Sox. Whatever aspirations they had for 2016 should probably adjusted accordingly.
Stud of the Week: Eduardo Nuñez
This guy clearly gets what’s going on. He hit .375/.375/.625 this week and had four doubles. He’s one of the few Twins batters who keeps hitting. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been enough to get the wins, but he’s at this point the only bright spot for what has been a black hole thus far for the Twins.
Dud of the Week: Ervin Santana
His first game back from the disabled list was not great. He went only 3.1 innings and gave up seven hits, three earned runs, and three walks against the White Sox on Friday. The Twins were still in the game when he left but having to go their bullpen early put a huge strain on them and they ended up losing the game. Santana is the closest thing the Twins have to an ace and they needed a little more length from him on Friday. He will probably rebound but the Twins desperately needed him to be their number-one guy on Friday and he didn’t deliver.
