Detroit Tigers

Record: 2-5

Weekly Recap:

It was another bad week for the Tigers. Despite all their offensive firepower, they lost two out of three against the Washington Nationals on the road then made their way to Camden Yards and were out-slugged by the Baltimore Orioles and lost three out of four. They were able to win the series finale on Sunday against the Orioles, but that doesn’t quite make up for posting another losing week. They’ve now called up outfielder prospect Steven Moya to help jumpstart the offense as well as finally activating Cameron Maybin from the disabled list; they are optioning Anthony Gose, one of their few left-handed bats, down to Triple-A Toledo.

Stud of the Week: Victor Martinez

Martinez continues to be the gift that keeps on giving. He continues to hit all over the field, getting on base, driving in runs, and keeping the train moving for the Tigers. So far the results haven’t been good enough, but if Martinez keeps up his hot hitting approach, sooner or later the dam will break open and the runs will pour out of the floodgates. He posted a scorching .520/.556/.560 on the week.

Dud of the Week: Mark Lowe

Two-years, $11 million. That’s the contract the Tigers paid Lowe to come in and be the setup guy in the bullpen and also provide some key innings of relief. They have doled out $11 million and seen their investment post a 27.00 ERA on the week through only 0.2 innings of relief by giving up two hits, two earned runs, one walk, and one home run. Let that sink in.
