It was a mixed week for the Indians. They were able to sweep a four-game set against their crosstown rivals the Cincinnati Reds but then came to Boston and dropped two out of three to the mighty Red Sox. The Indians are sitting three games over .500 at the moment, which is encouraging with their star player Michael Brantley on the disabled list, but whether they can play above .500 without knowing when Brantley will be back remains to be seen.
Stud of the Week: Francisco Lindor
The young shortstop continues to amaze. He had an out-of-this-world week as he hit .407/.467/.593 with one home run. He also continued to get it done defensively as he turned in yet a few more defensive gems at shortstop. He’s showing why the Indians were so high on him when they first drafted him and seems to be successfully avoiding the dreaded sophomore slump. Him staying hot at the plate will be huge for the team if they want to continue to be above .500.
Dud of the Week: Mike Napoli
Oof. This was a week Napoli would sooner forget. He slashed only .087/.125/.087 for the week and struck out a whopping 12 times. He has always been a big swing-or-miss guy and this week he missed a lot of pitches. He’s going through a slump, but the Indians are clearly confident he can break out of it as they continue to use him as their cleanup hitter. Hopefully, he can get it going soon and start connecting on a few more pitches rather than taking big cuts and coming up empty.
