Kansas City Royals
The Royals are starting to wake up, too. They haven’t raced out of the gates like they did in 2015 but seem to be taking it slow. That approach had them below .500 the last week or so, but they’re slowly approaching the .500 mark thanks to a solid week where they took two out of three against the Boston Red Sox and then came to the South Side of Chicago and took two out of three against the division rival White Sox.
Stud of the Week: Paulo Orlando
What a week it has been for Orlando. He only hit .643/.667/1.143 with one home run and seven RBIs for the week. He delivered timely hits when the Royals needed them. It’s huge for the Royals to get this kind of production out of the left field position, as that is currently their weakest position on what is otherwise a well-balanced roster.
Dud of the Week: Yordano Ventura
It’s tough to say anyone was a “Dud” this week due to how well the Royals played, but Ventura is getting the dishonorable mention this week. He had an okay start against the Red Sox where he pitched 5.2 innings and gave up four earned runs on seven hits. It was his start against the White Sox that was underwhelming, as he went six innings and gave up only three earned runs on six hits but walked four guys. His control problems continue to plague him. He needs to cut down on his walks or else he’ll face further punishment at the hands of other teams the more he issues free passes.
