The Twins continue to fade into obscurity. Their season seems all but over as they continue to lose game after game. They’ve been getting some better pitching as of late but it hasn’t been enough as they are failing to string together any sort of consistent style of play. They were swept by the Tigers on the road, then came back home to take on the Toronto Blue Jays and dropped two out of three.
Stud of the Week: Ervin Santana
The veteran righty delivered another solid outing for the Twins as he went eight innings against the Blue Jays and gave up only four earned runs on two hits. He’s not really an ace pitcher, but he has the stuff to go deep into games and limit the damage while keeping his team in the game at the same time. Seeing Santana start to string some consistent starts together is an encouraging sign.
Dud of the Week: José Berrios
There’s not really anything positive to say after Berrios’ last start against the Tigers. He couldn’t make it out of the first inning and gave up seven earned runs on three hits and four walks. He looked like a rookie pitcher in that start and the Tigers took full advantage. He has now been optioned back to Triple-A Rochester to work on some things, but this will most likely not be the last time he appears in the big leagues in 2016. He’s a better pitcher than what he showed against the Tigers and should use that outing as a learning experience to grow as a pitcher.
