Detroit Tigers
Record: 3-3
Weekly Recap:
It was an average week for the mighty Tigers. They took two out three against the Philadelphia Phillies at home then went to the Oakland Coliseum to tackle the Oakland Athletics. They ended up dropping two of three to post a .500 record for the week. When their offense is going, they are unstoppable. When their offense goes cold, they struggle mightily. They are still struggling to maintain a consistent approach.
Stud of the Week: Victor Martinez
Anyone who thinks he is an old man and doesn’t have it any more need to wake up. V-Mart only hit .444/.444/.611 with one home run and five RBIs on the week. He doesn’t just hit for power, he hits for average. When he is on, he can spray the ball to every part of the field. That’s what he did this week and needs to continue to do in order to keep the Tigers offense alive.
Dud of the Week: Jose Iglesias
Hopefully he can catch some fire from Martinez. The shortstop hit a mere .176/.176/.294 on the week. His strikeout rate is fine, he’s just making weak contact and struggling to get on base. He still has a slick glove so that’s a huge plus but his bat needs some serious help as the Tigers can’t keep waiting on him forever.
