Ten MLB Trade Deadline Ideas

Brewers Trade Jonathan Lucroy to the Rangers

Rangers Receive:

C Jonathan Lucroy

Brewers Receive:

RHP Luis Ortiz

OF Jairo Beras

Why it’s good for the Rangers:

The Rangers – sitting 0.5 games back of the Mariners – are off to a hot start in 2016 but have a gaping hole at catcher. Lucroy has established himself as one of the top catchers in baseball and would fill that hole. He’s currently hitting .284/.344/.491 and is under control through 2017 on a very team-friendly deal. Although he’ll be in high demand, this a deal that could potentially get it done.

Why it’s good for the Brewers:

Milwaukee has long been shopping Lucroy as they continue to rebuild, and this a nice package they can get in return. Ortiz, a first-round pick in 2014, is one of the top right-handed prospects in the Texas organization, and righty slugger Beras is the Rangers’ fifth-best prospect and could be a valuable hitting prospect for the Brewers.

Rangers wish they could get Lucroy for that little. No way Milwaukee accepts that deal. All these deals are gross underpayments except for a select few. That Sonny Gray package is laughable aside from JDL. Please don’t do another article like this until you can get a grasp on the trade market.

    Won’t happen.
Why its a dumb idea (besides them saying it won’t happen) – They don’t need any prospects as they have a great farm system. What they need is major league stars and ready players and Teharan is one already with a long contract.

    Lucroy won’ happen
Rangers have 2 backup catchers that are currently hitting better than Lucroy, doing a fine job. And Chirinos who is recovering will be ready shortly.
