Another bad week for the Twins. This is not their year. They have some nice young talent but will not be much of a relevant factor in the division. A terrible start to the year has all but doomed their chances at making much of an impact. The Twins most likely will end up playing spoiler for an AL Central team seeking the division crown. Minnesota started the week off by getting swept by the Oakland Athletics at the Oakland Coliseum. They were able to win the first game of a four game series against the Tampa Bay Rays at Target Field but then lost the next three games.
Stud of the Week: Eduardo Núñez
This guy has been a pleasant surprise for the Twins. He is absolutely locked in at the plate and getting it done as he is hitting everything in sight. He hit .321/.345/.571 with two home runs, two RBIs and three stolen bases for the week. One of his home runs was actually an inside-the-park home run as he used his wheels to fly around the bases. He is currently the best hitter on the Twins right now and it’s not even close.
Dud of the Week: Ervin Santana
He made two starts this week and lost both of them. The first game was against the Athletics and Santana pitched well; he just came out on the short end as he went seven innings and gave up just seven hits, two walks, one home run and three earned runs. The next start was a different story as the Rays tagged him for six hits, three walks, three home runs and five earned runs through six innings of work. He hasn’t pitched that badly at all in 2016, he just hasn’t been lights-out like the Twins had hoped for him to be when they signed him.
