It was another week for the Twins. They’re just playing the season out at this point, as they are so far out of contention in the AL Central that it seems hard to remember they even are in the AL Central. They were able to take two out of three against the visiting Miami Marlins but dropped the next series at home as they lost two out of three to the visiting Boston Red Sox. They were able to ride some walkoff magic as they won two games via the walkoff in the week, but other than that, it was another forgettable week for the club.
Stud of the Week: Eduardo Núñez
6 G, 26 AB, 5 R, 7 H, 2 HR, 2 RBI, 2 SB, 2 BB, 3 K, .269/.321/.500
The infielder remains the most productive hitter in a less-than-impressive Twins lineup. The question right now is not whether he will cool off, but whether his sizzling performance has drawn the eyes of opposing teams’ front offices for a possible trade. He’s under contract through 2018 and could no doubt provide a nice boost for a contending team’s bench. The Twins could get a nice return for Núñez, but there have been no reports of having any trade discussions about the leadoff hitter so far. Definitely something to keep an eye on as the season wears on.
Dud of the Week: Ervin Santana
1 GS, 0-1, 7.11 ERA, 6.1 IP, 9 H, 5 R/ER, 3 K, 1.421 WHIP
It was another bad week for the Twins righty. He was signed to be a front-of-the-rotation guy for Minnesota but has not lived up to his contract at all. He’s able to command his pitches well but always seems to leave one too many over the heart of the plate and get punished for it. His latest start against the Marlins was no different.
