Should the Braves Trade Julio Teheran?

Texas Rangers

Another potential suitor for Teheran at this year’s deadline could be the Texas Rangers. The team currently looks like the class of the American League, but questions about their starting rotation behind Cole Hamels and the up-and-down results produced by Martin Perez and Colby Lewis(who just hit the DL). The oft-injured Yu Darvish is currently sidelined with shoulder discomfort and though he is expected to return, his injury history would suggest that Texas may be in need of a more durable front-line arm to pair with Hamels. Teheran would seemingly fill that need, but at what cost to the Rangers?

Texas’ major league roster features young bats like infielder Jurickson Profar and outfielder Nomar Mazara, but it’s doubtful that the Rangers would be willing to move either. Looking at the Rangers’ prospects, third baseman Joey Gallo and outfielder Lewis Brinson stand out as potential trade pieces, but both are considered top-15 prospects in baseball and may not be available either. Texas makes sense as a trade partner from the Braves standpoint, but it is difficult to say whether Texas would be willing to part with any of their young bats in exchange for Teheran.
