Chicago White Sox
The White Sox began last week by winning two out of three against the New York Yankees at U.S. Cellular Field. They then hosted the Atlanta Braves and dropped two of three against, ending their first half on a low note. They then began the second half traveling to Anaheim to take on the Los Angeles Angels and ended up getting thumped, as the White Sox were swept in a three-game series.
Stud of the Week: James Shields
3 GS, 1-2, 21.2 IP, 13 H, 5 R/ER, 6 BB, 3 HR, 7 SO
His first few starts in a White Sox uniform were nothing short of a disaster, and it looked like the White Sox had made one of the worst trades in team history. Thankfully, the veteran righty has righted the ship and pitched quality games his past three starts giving the White Sox a much-needed boost to their starting rotation.
Dud of the Week: Carlos Rodon
1 GS, 0-1, 9.00 ERA, 5.0 IP, 12 H, 6 R/5 ER, 2 HR, 2 BB, 3 SO, 2.800 WHIP
The young lefty has been nothing short of inconsistent this year. His latest start reflected that, as he was pounded heavily by the Yankees. He ended up being placed on the 15-day disabled list later in the week due to a wrist injury after suffering a freak accident by slipping on the dugout steps. Any injury to the rotation is a serious blow to the White Sox, as their depth has already been tested this season due to various injuries to their players.
