The Indians welcomed AL Central rivals the Detroit Tigers to Progressive Field to begin last week. They sent the Tigers away by winning the series, as they took two out of three against them. The Yankees then came to Progressive Field and left the Indians a bit battered and bruised, as the Yanks left town with three out of four victories against the Indians. They then started their second half at Target Field against AL Central opponent Minnesota, and were able to win the series by taking two out of three against the Twins. It came with a price, however, as Yan Gomes suffered a dislocated shoulder running to first and may potentially miss the rest of the season. The Indians are also reportedly looking to trade for Yanks lefty reliever Andrew Miller to fortify their bullpen.

A switch has turned on for the switch-hitting slugger, and he is just tearing it up right now at the plate. Hitting for both average and power is a great sign for both him and the Indians, as he’s always been known to have great plate discipline, but has always been overlooked for his power. If he can continue to hit the way he’s been hitting, that gives the Indians more fire to their offense.
Dud of the Week: Yan Gomes

He was already having a bad season before his injury, but now may possibly miss the rest of the season due to his separated shoulder. It’s an unfortunate injury for the Indians catcher, but he wasn’t really hitting that much anyway, and also was not framing pitches well. While he will be missed, his absence will hopefully not be too much of a blow for the playoff-aspiring Indians.
