The lowly Twins began last week by defeating the Athletics in a three-game series, taking two out of three. They then traveled to Globe Life Park to take on the Texas Rangers and won the four-game series by taking three out of four, ending the first half on a high. The second half began with the team losing two out of three games against the Indians at Target Field. To make this season even more frustrating, they have now let go of General Manager Terry Ryan, undoubtedly due to the poor performance by a team that the front office expected to be a serious contender for the AL Central title this year.
Stud of the Week: Joe Mauer
8 G, 30 AB, 8 R, 11 H, 2 2B, 2 RBI, 6 BB, 2 SO, .367/.472/.433
The veteran remains one of the Twins’ most consistent hitters. He may not be hitting for power, but he is hitting for average and delivering base hit after base hit. In a season filled with disappointment, Mauer is at least doing his part and performing like a leader.
Dud of the Week: Brian Dozier
10 G, 38 AB, 3 R, 6 H, 0 2B, 0 3B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 7 BB, 25 SO, .158/.277/.342
His streaky season continues, as he is now in a cold spell. He’s once again struggling to get on base or get base hits. He’s hit a couple of dingers, but hasn’t been able to find consistency. It’s either hot or cold for the second baseman, and right now, he’s at a frigid temperature.
