Before the frigid winter hits, warm up to the thought of New York Yankees baseball.
The team announced their full spring training schedule on Friday, including report dates for pitchers and catchers, position players and exhibition games leading up to Opening Day against the Toronto Blue Jays on March 29.
Yankees’ pitchers and catchers will report to George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, FL on February 13, with the first workout scheduled one day later on February 14. Position players are scheduled to report on February 18. The first full-squad workout is scheduled for February 19 and games will kick off on Friday, February 23 at against the Detroit Tigers.
While the games are nothing but exhibitions, some highlights include the Boston Red Sox in Fort Myers on March 3 and in Tampa on March 23 and the New York Mets in Port St. Lucie on March 7 before hosting their crosstown rival on March 10. Spring Training comes to an end on March 26 on the road against the Atlanta Braves at SunTrust Park before kicking off the 2018 season in Toronto.
There are a few storylines to watch as well. In 2017, Alex Rodriguez made some headlines by stopping by to fulfill his duties as the team’s special advisor to owner Hal Steinbrenner. MLB Pipeline’s top prospect Gleyber Torres is also expected to make a push for a major league roster spot as the starting third baseman while bullpen stud Chad Green could enter as a starting pitcher.
Don’t fret, folks. There are just 87 days before baseball and all the joys that come with it are back.
